A.I. Memphis Bound

So the Allen Iverson summer/fall watch is officially over. Making the announcement via (where else?) his Twitter page, Allen Iverson, former scoring champion, NBA All-Star and NBA Finalist, will be seen jacking up his quota of ridiculous shots in Memphis Grizzlies uniform next season, in what is without a doubt the twilight of his star-studded career. The past few years for A.I. have been rough. After leaving the Sixers, the Nuggets struggled with the former Georgetown Hoya and immediately prospered after the Chauncey B-b-b-b-billups swap. The Pistons had such a forgettable season they fired coach Michael Curry after just one season despite making the playoffs as the 8 seed. The jury is still out on whether the Pistons will rebound after the A.I. experiment, but it can't get much worse.

The Grizzlies, honestly, have nothing to lose. They have some intriguing pieces on their team (OJ Mayo, Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, now Hasheem Thabeet) that have immense talent but, with the exception of Jay Bilas' favorite 7-3 freak, have yet to live up their abilities. A.I. might ruin what chemistry they have built over the past few seasons, but why not give it a shot? For one year? Give the 200 or so Grizzlies fans something to cheer about. If he can replicate the move he put on MJ in the video below, maybe a few more bandwagon fans will head to the FedEx Forum to catch the Grizz.

  1. AI and OJ together? Are they aware that there is only 1 ball to go around?
